The extended stand-off over the Asia Cup trophy continues to show no signs of ending, with Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman, still holding on to the silverware. As reported by NDTV, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent a new warning to Naqvi, asking him to relinquish the trophy to India or face the issue being taken up with the International Cricket Council (ICC) next month at Dubai. The controversy began when the Indian team declined to accept the trophy directly from him during the post-match presentation ceremony in Dubai owing to Naqvi’s dual role as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Following the incident, Naqvi reportedly took the trophy and secured it in his Dubai office. He has allegedly insisted that a formal function be organised for India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav to personally collect the trophy from him, conditions the BCCI has rejected. The Indian board maintains that the trophy and medals should instead be sent directly to the ACC headquarters for official collection. Sources have revealed that the cricket boards of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are in India's corner. But Naqvi has yet to yield, and the BCCI has apparently drawn up a formal complaint for presentation at the next ICC board meeting in Dubai. The BCCI has also cautioned Naqvi against filing complaints to ICC members, following reports that he alleged he was made a joker on the dais of the Asia Cup when the Indian team refused to come up to him for the presentation.
