The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has trimmed the IPL 2025 auction register - from 1574 names to 574. Not all these players, however, would go under the hammer, though, in the mega auction that the BCCI has scheduled for November 24 and 25. At a point when it will call 116 players for bidding, the auction process would move over into an accelerated phase of it. The 117th name on the list is Ricky Bhui. the BCCI, In a communique to the franchises on Friday evening, said: "For your planning purposes please note, subject to timings it is envisaged that the accelerated process will start after player no.116. The first accelerated process will cover all the players from 117 - 574, Franchises will be asked to nominate a set number of players from this group by 10 PM on the evening of 24th November. "Once these players (117-574) have been presented, franchises will be requested to submit the names of players (unpresented /unsold) from all those on the full list of 574 for further accelerated presentation. This will be covered in more detail at the auction briefing on 23rd November 2024." The marquee sets will start the auction followed by rounds of capped players according to their specialization: batters, all-rounders, wicketkeeper-batters, fast bowlers, and spin bowlers. The uncapped players will then be available in a similar sequence. There are two marquee sets. The first one is M1, consisting of Jos Buttler, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Mitchell Starc. The second list consists of Yuzvendra Chahal, Liam Livingstone, David Miller, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj. Franchise representatives said that they were surprised by the small list of marquee players as they were told there will be two sets but were expecting at least 20 names rather than just 12. It's another significant point that Jofra Archer will not be around in the auction. England pacer will not be available for the 2025 season as ECB has chosen to save him for the summer Test matches.
