The former 1983 World Cup winner, Roger Binny, had stepped down earlier from his role as the BCCI president as he turned 70, leaving the position vacant. While a Times of India suggested that the present vice-president, Rajeev Shukla, might get promoted as the President, a report from PTI said that the board is looking for a cricketer of high stature to succeed Binny. Roger Binny came to the BCCI as the president in October 2022, after Sourav Ganguly's tenure ended. The post was empty for the past two months, as the maximum age cut-off for any BCCI or state association is 70. Shukla has been looking after all the presidential duties, as he is serving as the vice-president. However, whether any cricketer will take the role or not is still uncertain. The BCCI Veteran said, "There is a feeling among important stakeholders that a cricketer of distinction should always be elected as president. Sourav Ganguly was a decorated India skipper and Roger Binny India’s first World Cup winning hero. However, how many such cricketers of repute would be interested in taking up an honorary top job is a big question." Reports are suggesting that BCCI has already approached an Indian cricketer who was in England while India was touring the country. Whether he has received the role or not is not certain. The reports suggest that BCCI might entertain Bihar Cricket Association president and BJP leader Rakesh Tiwari as the vice-president following Shukla. Shukla, coming from the primary opposition party, Congress, might have a duel with Tiwari or might be sent to some other position. In such a scenario, the present IPL chairman, Arun Dhumal, has been serving for six years, and he now needs a breather. Reports are saying the Shukla might be handed over the role as the IPL Chairman. Meanwhile, Sanjay Naik, the secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, comes to the scene too as a potential IPL Chairman. No elections for major posts; Devajit Saikia and others to continue: Reports The PTI report said that the BCCI will hold the Annual General meeting in the last week of September. In that meeting, everything regarding the positions and the names, as well as the procedures, will be finalized. The meeting will also finalize the principal sponsor for the Indian team. Morever, according to the Dainik Jagran report, many key roles in the BCCI are expected to be finalized through mutual understanding this time, with the likelihood of elections being minimal. Devjit Saikia is expected to retain his position as BCCI secretary, while joint secretary Rohan Goons Desai and treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia are also likely to continue in their current roles.
