The Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) has unveiled a new welfare initiative targeting the spouses of deceased members. Announced at the second board meeting of the 2025-26 financial year on August 25, the scheme provides a one-time benefit of ₹1 lakh to eligible widows. The first phase is projected to support approximately 50 beneficiaries, once approved. The association clarified that the scheme is separate from existing benefits for ICA members. It does not extend to spouses of former international Test cricketers, who are already covered under other arrangements. The board stated “The initiative reflects ICA's continuing commitment to honour the contributions of cricketers and to extend meaningful support to their families in times of need." The scheme will undergo periodic reviews, with potential modifications aligned with any pension provisions for widows and widowers introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The body has launched multiple initiatives to safeguard members’ welfare, including financial and medical support schemes. Among its key measures is the Senior Member Recognition Programme, awarding a one-time ₹1 lakh to around 170 veteran players over 60 without pensions or gratuity. Additionally, the ICA offers a group health insurance plan covering up to ₹2.5 lakh for 1,079 members, alongside an annual health check-up program involving 43 diagnostic tests for members and their spouses. Over 2,200 individuals have benefited from these tests, conducted at home for convenience. Emergency financial assistance is also available, providing up to ₹1 lakh for urgent medical expenses. To date, 77 members have received aid through this fund. With the new scheme for widows of deceased members, the ICA underscores its enduring mission: to support players and their families beyond their playing careers. This move reinforces the association’s commitment to ensuring the cricketing community remains cared for in times of difficulty.
