On Sunday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) took a generous initiative to support the women's team of Afghanistan. In a recent statement released by ICC, they have announced that, they are forming a dedicated support for the displaced Afghan female team. For this they have partnered with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Cricket Australia (CA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide both cricketing and personal assistance to the Afghan young talents. As part of the initiative, the ICC will set up a special fund to offer direct financial aid, enabling these players to keep chasing their cricketing dreams. This support will be bolstered by a comprehensive high-performance program, featuring elite coaching, top-tier training infrastructure, and personalized mentorship to help them thrive in the sport. Speaking about initiative former BCCI Secretary and present ICC Chairman Jay Shah said that he is proud of the initiative. He said, “At the International Cricket Council, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and ensuring every cricketer has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances. In collaboration with our valued partners, we are proud to launch this task force and support fund, complemented by a comprehensive high-performance programme, to ensure displaced Afghan women cricketers can continue their journey in the sport. This initiative reflects our steadfast dedication to cricket’s global growth and its power to inspire unity, resilience, and hope.” The ICC hopes this effort will not only safeguard the future of Afghan women cricketers but also highlight cricket’s enduring power to unite people across boundaries and challenges.
