New Zealand made history by becoming the first team to whitewash India in their own backyard since 2000, sealing a 3-0 Test series victory with a 25-run win in Mumbai. This marks India's first home Test series whitewash in 24 years, a disappointing outcome that has captured widespread attention. In response, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is now reportedly considering changes that could impact the future of senior players in the national team. According to PTI, the BCCI has issued an ultimatum to some of India's veteran players regarding their roles in the Test squad, suggesting that significant adjustments could be on the horizon following this historic defeat. As quoted by PTI, the source close to the BCCI said: "Stocks will be taken certainly and it could be of informal nature since the team leaves for Australia on November 10. But this has been a huge debacle but, with Australia series round the corner and the squad already announced, there won't be any tinkering. But if India doesn't qualify for WTC final in England, one can be rest assured that all four super seniors won't be on that flight to UK for the ensuing five-Test series. In any case, all four have likely played their final Test at home together." Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggled to make an impact with the bat, while the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin seemed out of form. This series turned out to be one of the toughest home outings for these players, as their performances fell short of their usual standards. Now, with India caught in a tricky qualification scenario for the World Test Championship final, they must secure a 4-0 victory in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to keep their hopes alive.
