The Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, has now made a fairly big shift inside India’s support team. T Dilip has been taken out as the fielding coach, and Subhadeep Ghosh has been pushed into the role right away. This move, it is said, came after the BCCI checked how India performed in the field across all formats. The board apparently wasn’t pleased with the standards overall and decided to not go ahead with extending T Dilip’s contract after the England tour. And it’s also coming at a time when India are gearing up for a rather packed international stretch. Ryan ten Doeschate has also stepped down as India’s assistant coach, after his two-year contract wrapped up following the England tour. There are reports that he could be heading back to Kolkata Knight Riders. BCCI Makes Big Support Staff Change For a while, there were rumors that T Dilip might not be retained as India’s fielding coach. India’s fielding has drawn criticism in recent months, and the BCCI wanted to clean up that side of the game before the next set of matches. Now, Subhadeep Ghosh has been handed the task of leveling up India’s fielding. The ex- Assam and Railways player has worked as a fielding coach for multiple teams and has built a solid reputation over the years, in a steady way. His first real assignment, with the senior men, will be the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in August. The BCCI is hoping this fresh coaching arrangement can help the team deliver more consistently in the months ahead. Who Is Subhadeep Ghosh? Subhadeep Ghosh played domestic cricket in the 1990s and early 2000s for Assam and Railways. In total, he played 17 First-Class games and 17 List A matches. He was a right-handed batter, and he also bowled off-spin, when needed. After he finished playing, Ghosh moved into coaching, and focused on fielding. He spent time with younger players, and earned praise for sharpening their catching, throwing and overall awareness. One of his major highlights came with the India Under-19 side. He was working as fielding coach when India won the 2026 Under-19 World Cup. He has also worked with the India women’s cricket team, and he served as a specialist fielding coach for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Saransh Jain, a 33-year-old all-rounder who is uncapped, has got his first Test call-up after Washington Sundar was ruled out of the first Test because of a hamstring injury. Ravindra Jadeja is back in the squad after being rested. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan are included, but only subject to fitness checks, while Nitish Kumar Reddy continues his rehabilitation and has not been selected for this series. With a new fielding coach, and a refreshed group of players, India will want to start the Sri Lanka Tests on a strong footing and try to improve across departments.
