After the frustrating whitewash against New Zealand in the 3-match Test series, BCCI is looking to revoke the "special privileges" granted to the Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir. During his appointment at the post, he was allowed to choose his subordinates, be it batting or bowling coaches. Despite receiving all these privileges, his mark sheet showed otherwise. Earlier, India, under Gambhir, lost the historic ODI series against Sri Lanka by 2-0. The Islander defeated the Men in Blue by a massive 110 runs, sealing their first bilateral ODI series victory since 1997. Later, the Kiwis defeated the Indians and won a series at India for the first time, also breaking India's 12-year-long home series winning streak. In the third test against New Zealand, the decision-making of the team management evoked questions among the fans. Decisions like sending the in-form Sarfaraz at 8 and sending the bowler Mohammed Siraj as the night watchman have been one of those. A senior BCCI official anonymously informed PTI, "Gautam Gambhir was given access which his predecessors Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid didn't have. The BCCI's rule book doesn't allow coaches to be a part of the selection committee meetings, but for the Australia tour selection meeting, an exception was made. The head coach was allowed to attend considering the magnitude of the tour." Harshit Rana And Nithish Reddy to travel on Gambhir's appeal However, at the request of Gautam Gambhir, the KKR speedster Harshit Rana and the SRH allrounder Nithish Reddy are going to Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Harshit, who was in the home series against Bangladesh, didn't get a ball to bowl and was reportedly returned due to some injury issues. A week later, he came back bowling in the Bengaluru nets for India. Also, he had a successful run against Assam in the Ranji Trophy. Read Also: KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel to play India A ahead of BGT. Some believed Rana was sent to Australia with India A to adapt to bouncy pitches before the Test series, but he became a net bowler instead, while Reddy's struggles, including his trouble with short balls, raised concerns. Gambhir was trying to make Reddy ready as a replacement for Hardik Pandya in the T-20 setup. Well, it's time for Gambhir to undergo some litmus tests alone as a coach. The privileges he received throughout due to his playing day masterclass are under the microscope as a coach. The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy won't be just a gateway to India's qualification for the World Test Championship but a testimony to the coach, Gambhir, for his longevity in his position.
