The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India has announced that the opener of the Duleep Trophy will now be held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru starting September 5. While Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh was supposed to host the remaining five four-day matches of this multi-day tournament, sources close to the BCCI and the Karnataka State Cricket Association have told Sportstar that this season opener has now been shifted to Bengaluru since many Indian star cricketers like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to turn up. With the Indian team gearing up for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh from September 19, the BCCI wants most of its regular players to turn up at the season-opener so that it can help in fine-tuning form ahead of the busy international schedule. The decision to shift the opener in the season to Bengaluru was taken unanimously by the national selection committee and the coaching staff. But again, it has been left to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to decide on their participation in the Duleep Trophy based on their workload. Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to participate as the team management wants to ensure he is fully fit and prepared for the upcoming season. The other international players, though, which include Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, may feature in the opening game of the tournament.
