The Board of Cricket Control in India gave fresh warnings to the Indian stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, saying that they need to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy in order to play for India. Notably, the duo had earlier retired from both T20 Internationals and Test cricket. Both are currently playing ODI cricket and are aiming to play in the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played the recently concluded three-match ODI Series against Australia. With limited ODI matches before the World Cup, the management has been insisting the duo have regular match practice by participating in the Vijay Hazare trophy. A report from the Indian Express said that BCCI wants Ro-Ko to be "match fit" to play for India. A BCCI source said, as quoted by the Indian Express, "The board and team management have conveyed to both of them that they will have to play domestic cricket if they want to play for India. As they both have retired from two formats, they have to play domestic cricket to be match-fit." Rohit Sharma was awarded the player of the series award in the Australia series, with a half century and match-winning century in the second and third ODIs, respectively. According to the Indian Express, Rohit Sharma has already confirmed his availability to his domestic board, the Mumbai Cricket Association. He even told MCA that he will play the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy too, starting on November 26. However, Rohit's participation in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is uncertain due to his commitment to the ODI series against South Africa, even though the squad has not been announced yet. Notably, the ODI series will be starting on November 30, and will continue till December 6. The second-highest run-getter in the format started with two ducks in Australia, followed by a half century in the third ODI at Sydney on October 25. However, Kohli did not confirm anything about his commitment for Vijay Hazare Trophy. When did Virat Kohli play his last Vijay hazare trophy? Virat Kohli played his last season in 2010 on February 18, against services. He led Delhi to a 113 run win, with himself contributing 16 runs.
