A two-hour-long meeting in a lavish hotel in Mumbai by the BCCI official came to the conclusion that players won't be granted matches they wish. On January 11, Saturday, Devraj Salkia officially started his tenure as the acting secretary of BCCI. He, along with Board President Roger Binny, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, and head coach Gautam Gambhir, conducted a meeting discussing the future of the cons in the recently conducted Border Gavaskar Trophy. A frustrating Test series broke India 10-years pride by a 1-3 loss. Following that, there were a lot of criticisms regarding Gambhir's coaching tenure and axing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the plan. However, in the meeting, there were no such discussions. Rather, they tried to figure out the roots of the problems without taking any drastic decisions of benching any player or simply blaming the leadership directly. A source anonymously told the PTI, "There was a detailed discussion on the Border Gavaskar Trophy performance and what all went wrong and the course correction required. But do not expect a hurried decision from the new dispensation of BCCI." However, few faces are common in all formats. But now, after the meeting, BCCI has decided that players can't skip matches as they wish, which may affect the workload of players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other senior players. During the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Gambhir emphasised on red ball players to take part in Ranji Cricket. This time BCCI acknowledged this decision and has strictly mentioned that players have to show medical reasons in case any player wants to skip any match. Adding to that, the BCCI won't take any immediate decisions as that would harm the team's balance and mentality, especially with the Champions Trophy six weeks away. Rohit Sharma, under fire for poor batting in Australia, remains ODI captain but faces uncertainty for the June Test series against England, unlike Virat Kohli, who is in a slightly better position after a century in Perth. Performances in the Champions Trophy, ending March 9, will significantly influence their futures, with IPL commitments following soon after.
