The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has withdrawn its decision to host a Test match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in the month of November. For the unaware, air pollution is quite the topic of discussion in Delhi during the winter season. The 0-100 AQI (Air Quality Index) is normal. But in Delhi in the month of November 2024, it had reached at higher levels. Despite being aware of these issues, the BCCI went ahead with scheduling the India vs South Africa Test match in Delhi from November 14 to 18. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had made a statement that 'the pollution issue doesn't happen every year' on being questioned. Well, the board no longer believes that. They have taken the issue to heart, and now the India vs South Africa 1st Test would be played at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. And the India vs West Indies 2nd Test would be played in Delhi instead of Kolkata. Here is what a BCCI source told the Times of India. The Arun Jaitley in Delhi will now hold the second Test between India and West Indies between Oct 10-14, which was originally supposed to be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kolkata, meanwhile, will now hold the first Test between India and South Africa from Nov 14-18. When compelled to proceed, they stepped onto the field with masks on. They were rebuked by commentators but when they vomited on the pitch, everyone understood just how severe the problem was for players. Medical professionals have even said that any outdoor physical activity in the winter season in Delhi would have lasting adverse impacts on one's health owing to the pollution. With this in mind, the BCCI has rescheduled the Test match to October. This has been done to avoid the players from being affected by possibly high pollution levels at that time of the year. The BCCI prioritises the welfare and well-being of the players and their health at all times. A formal announcement regarding this swap will be made in the next couple of days
