The Indian wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson seemed to displease the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy. As a consequence, he might be sidelined from the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 and even the ODI series against England. According to a report from the Times of India, Samson's decision to opt out of the VHT has triggered the BCCI selection committee led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Samson reportedly has not made any formal knock to the board before deciding not to play VHT. Meanwhile, the Kerala Cricket Association did not add any player as Samson's replacement. KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar clarified that he didn't want to exclude a young player from the team due to the lack of a clear confirmation from Samson. The fact Samson left his domestic side without any notification clearly violates BCCI's instruction to prioritize domestic cricket. Reckoning Shreyas Iyer's and Ishan Kishan's snub, a BCCI source informed TOI that, “The instructions are clear on domestic cricket and everyone knows what happened with Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer when they missed Ranji Trophy matches without any valid reason. They lost the central contracts. Even in Samson’s case, the board and the selectors weren’t given a clear reason behind him missing from the tournament." Samson is a part of the T20 squad against England, but if he will play the ODI matches is yet uncertain. Reflecting on the bitter reaction Samson shares with the KCA officials, the BCCI source said that he should not have brought that in his cricket or will have to pay the price of staying out of the team.
