The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought bids for the main sponsorship rights of both the men's and women's cricket teams. The Expression of Interest (EOI) document came out on Tuesday, September 2, and companies can submit their bids by September 16. This news follows Dream11 ending its three-year sponsorship agreement with the Indian cricket teams after the government imposed a ban on real-money gaming websites under the new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act. With the Asia Cup set to start shortly and the women's World Cup set to begin on September 30 in Guwahati, India could play without a front-end sponsor if the process is not finished in time. Only firms with an average turnover or net worth of ₹300 crore over the last three years are eligible to bid. The statement stated: "The average turnover of each bidder for the last 3 (three) years must be at least INR 300,00,00,000 (Indian Rupees Three Hundred Crore only) as per the last 3 (three) audited accounts or the average net worth of each bidder for the last 3 (three) years must be at least INR 300,00,00,000 (Indian Rupees Three Hundred Crore only) as per the last 3 (three) audited accounts." The board also prohibited companies related to internet gaming, betting, gambling, cryptocurrency, tobacco, and alcohol from applying. Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah explained their position: "Our stand is very clear. With government regulations in place, the BCCI cannot continue its sponsorship relationship with Dream11 or any such other gaming company. Under the new restrictions, there is no scope, and we are facing a roadblock with Dream11," Saikia explained to India Today. The new bidding process will determine the future of the lead sponsor of both India Men's and Women's teams as they gear up for future international tournaments.
