The BCCI has extended the deadline of player retentions in the Women's Premier League (WPL) that were to be submitted by all teams before October 15. Now, however, on October 15, the BCCI proceeded and informed the franchises that they will now get time till November 7 to finalize the lists. Every teams can retain a maximum of 18 players, from which six can be overseas players. The retentions are like the Indian Premier League, where teams have the freedom to release some players for the each year. According to the BCCI, this time, too, there will be a mini-auction, but the date is not announced so far. The purse for the auction has been raised up to INR 15 crores for the third season, after it was INR 12 crores for the first season and INR 13.5 crores for the second. The WPL could see its new entrant in the mega-auction which is expected to take place after the third season. Retention policy for WPL would be required at par with the retention plan formulated for the teams of the IPL. Five teams participate in the league currently. The franchises said they were looking to have it around that time since women's senior domestic tournaments concludes in mid-January. The venues of the matches are not revealed yet. However, like the second season, the BCCI might stage the third season at two venues. The second season had 22 matches across Bengaluru and New Delhi, while the first season was played completely in Mumbai. Teams which are competing in WPL are Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and UP Warriorz. The Mumbai Indians, in the first season, held in 2023, came out on top as champion under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, and the defending champion of this season is Smriti Mandhana's RCB.
