The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to hold a brief workshop in August for national cricketers, in the wake of the recent controversy surrounding veteran pacer Taskin Ahmed. The workshop aims at enlightening players about their role, public perception, and expected conduct as celebrity sportsmen. On Monday, a General Diary (GD) was submitted at the Mirpur Model Police Station against Taskin, alleging assault and threats. The complaint had been made by Sifatur Rahman Sourave, a childhood friend of the cricketer as per reports. Police reports state that the incident allegedly took place on Sunday night outside Sony Cinema Hall in Dhaka, where Taskin apparently invited Sifatur to the spot, punched him, and threatened him. The issue is also under investigation by the police. Officer-in-Charge Sajjadur Rahman affirmed that the incident is being investigated and further information is being gathered. Subsequent reports indicated that the real incident happened at the Asad Gate area, located under Mohammadpur Thana, and not at Mirpur as originally reported. Responding to the development, BCB President's media and communications committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed said that the board will not take any disciplinary measure until the legal process is finished. It is beyond the cricket board now. Taskin says that he is not involved in it. Now police will investigate it as there has been a GD. There will be an outcome, and let's wait for that," said Iftekhar. While so, after this episode and the growing glare on players' off-field activities, BCB has also resolved to hold a workshop in August. The workshop will concentrate on enlightening national players about their behavior, social obligations, and expectations as public figures. "We are planning to hold a short workshop with national cricketers in August as we feel we must remind them what they can do and what they cannot, considering they are not only cricketers rather they are also idols of many youngsters and are being followed by the,m so they have some accountability towards their fans," he added. Interestingly, the pacer replied through his official Facebook page, saying the accusations were not true and that the whole scenario had been exaggerated. He asked fans not to believe rumors going around and informed that the truth was another thing.
