The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has imposed a four-match suspension on Bangladesh international Towhid Hridoy, following an incident of dissent during a recent Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Super League game. The incident occurred during the match between Hridoy's team, Mohammedan Sporting Club, and Gazi Group Cricketers on April 26. The game, played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, saw Gazi Group Cricketers posting a total of 236 runs after opting to bat first. In reply, Mohammedan were cruising at 146/3 in 32 overs when Hridoy was dismissed. He was attempting to drive a full delivery from leg-spinner Wasi Siddiquee, but the ball narrowly missed his bat, deflected off the wicketkeeper’s gloves, and was caught by Sheikh Parvez Jibon at point. The fielding side appealed for a catch, suggesting the ball had touched Hridoy’s bat. The on-field umpire, Moniruzzaman Tinku, agreed with the appeal and raised his finger, sending Hridoy back to the pavilion. As he left the crease, Hridoy gestured in disappointment at the spot where the ball had pitched, showing his dissatisfaction with the umpire’s decision. Following the incident, Hridoy was found guilty of showing dissent towards the umpire’s decision, and as a result, he was penalized with one demerit point. This increased his accumulated demerit points to eight, which led to the four-match suspension. This latest suspension comes just two weeks after Hridoy was handed a one-match ban for another altercation with the umpires during a previous match. His comments in the media following the incident had earned him additional demerit points. In total, Hridoy had accumulated seven demerit points before the latest sanction, which led to his suspension for the next few games. The controversy surrounding Hridoy's previous suspension Hridoy’s initial suspension had sparked controversy when Mohammedan Sporting Club appealed to the BCB to reduce the ban. Despite the appeal, the suspension was only partially upheld, with Hridoy missing the match against the Legends of Rupganj. The situation became even more complicated when BCB officials, including Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) member Enamul Haque Moni, resigned over confusion regarding how the suspension had been reduced. The conflict between the player, the officials, and the BCB deepened when umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat, who was involved in the previous altercation, threatened to quit domestic umpiring in response to the mishandling of the issue. Following this, the BCB clarified that Hridoy would serve a suspension for the subsequent match against Gazi Group. Despite the BCB's announcement of the suspension, confusion continues to surround the matter. On April 25, a group of players, led by Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, met with BCB President Faruque Ahmed to discuss the issue. While the BCB stated that the suspension would be deferred over a 12-month period, CCDM chairman Mohammad Salahuddin later claimed that no such action had been taken. As of April 28, the confusion surrounding Hridoy’s suspension remains unresolved, with no clear consensus on how the situation will be handled moving forward.
