Sydney Thunder posted a challenging total of 193/4 in the 9th match of the Big Bash League 2025-26 at Manuka Oval in Canberra. After gettinga comfortable start, openers Sam Konstas and Matthew Gilkes had a dominating stand at the top. Konstas played beautifully, scoring 63 off 45 balls with eight boundaries, and his partner was more aggressive, Gilkes blitzed his way to 76 off just 48 balls, with four fours and three sixes. Their partnership provided the perfect launchpad, as Thunder reached 126 in the first 13 overs. Brisbane Heat got into the game after the fall of the two openers, tightening up their types of bowling. Sam Billings, in a brief appearance, hammered 25 off 11 balls, but David Warner fell short early for 7 runs. Daniel Sams ensured a steady finish for the Thunder at 10 not out as the total approached 200. Jack Wildermuth was the pick of the bowlers for the Brisbane Heat. He was very controlling in his four overs, taking 2/25 by dismissing both Konstas and Warner. Matt Kuhnemann was also economical with his 1/29. Both Colin Munro (18) and Jack Wildermuth (14) were well set but were dismissed by Shadab, making it hard to build the momentum for the Thunder. Matt Renshaw tried to pull the chase together with 43 off 28 runs, including four fours and a six, before also falling to Shadab at a crucial time. Hugh Weibgen also added 30 runs, but he could not extend his innings. Shadab Khan Turns the Match with Four-Wicket Spell The match drifted decidedly in the favor of the Thunder when Shadab Khan put on a match-turning performance, 4 for 24. He first removed Munro and Wildermuth, while Renshaw and Tom Alsop fell prey to him, shattering the entire top and middle-order. From that point on, the Sydney Thunder kept the run-rate tight through Daniel Sams and Chris Green, leaving the Heat far too much to do in the final overs.
