The Bangladesh women's team captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, was accused of assaulting young players in the team. The accusations was raised by the team's pacer, Jahanara Alam, who is currently one of the ignored pacers. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board had turned down all allegations against Sultana. The board further tagged all claims as "baseless and unfortunate." What allegation did Alam make against Joty? Jahanara Alam had recently attended an interview session named "Kaler Kantho," where she accused Nigar Sultana of slapping the juniors. Alam also accused several other teammates and the management after the team ended at the seventh position in the recently concluded Women's ODI World Cup. Speaking to the daily, Alam said that "Joty beats the juniors." She even revealed that the juniors feared Joty. Alam said, "Even during this World Cup, the juniors told me, ‘No, I won’t do this again. Then I’ll have to get slapped again.’ I heard from some people, ‘I got beaten up yesterday.’ Even during the Dubai tour, she called a junior into the room and slapped her." However it can be speculated from her words that it has been the team environment that has been bothering her. In the interview she claimed that the seniors were pressurized the moment Joty got the captaincy. And she feels that everyone in the team is a victim, even though the problems are different. She said, "Here, one or two people get advanced facilities and in some cases, only one person gets them. In 2021, the process of eliminating seniors like me along with a few others from the post-Covid camp began. Then I was made the captain of one of the three teams in the Bangladesh Games. “The captains of the other two teams were Jyoti (Nigar Sultana) and Sharmin Sultana. The pressure on seniors started from then on.” What did the Bangladesh team say? BCB swiftly dismissed the allegation, claiming it "fabricated and devoid of any truth." It said, "The Board finds it unfortunate that such derogatory and scandalous claims have been made at a time when the Bangladesh Women’s Team is showing commendable progress and unity on the international stage." Further backing the team management and Joty's leadership, BCB added, "It is deeply disappointing that an individual who currently has no involvement or relevance in the plans of Bangladesh cricket has chosen to make such misleading statements in public."
