The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has released its 15-player team for the forthcoming ICC Women's World Cup 2025, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2. The team includes uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Rubya Haider Jhelik, who receives her first World Cup selection. Rubya, Bangladesh's T20I representative, remains to be seen in action in the ODI format. But her progress with the bat and behind the wickets in the last six months persuaded the selectors to reward her at the top level. In addition to Rubya, off-spinner Nishita Akter Nishi aged 17 years and opening-order batter Sumaiya Akter have also been added to the final roster. They take the place of Dilara Akter Dola, Jannatul Ferdous Sumona, and Ishma Tanjim, respectively. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's preparation hit a significant setback after the senior women's team recently lost consecutive games to Bangladesh's U-15 boys' team in the current Challenge Cup. The women's team was defeated by 87 runs by the U-15 Red side before losing by 47 runs in a rain-interrupted game against the Green side. But captain Nigar Sultana Joty, who will again lead the team, admitted international match practice would have been better. The team will reunite for another nine-day camp in Sylhet later this month, with three day-night practice matches at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Interestingly, Bangladesh starts its campaign against Pakistan on October 2 in Colombo.
