Noted power-hitting coach Julian Wood will arrive in Bangladesh in August. The move within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) precedes the Asia Cup, to be held next September later this year. Wood is set to join the setup for three weeks, where he is expected to enhance the range of shots of the team's batters. The Bangladeshi players like to begin a preparatory camp for the eight-team tournament from August 6 at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The tournament will be a 20-over affair starting on September 9 in the UAE, and will be more of a dress rehearsal in mind for the coming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. The retention of Wood after the Asia Cup, however, is in doubt currently. Here is what stated Wood, as quoted by Cricbuzz “Yeah, I'm talking to Simmo (Phil Simmons, head coach). Basically, I'm there for three weeks in August. That's what I've heard, but it's not confirmed yet. But it's more than likely. You obviously spoke to the BCB. In August, yeah (will be reaching Dhaka) prior to the Asia Cup. Don't know (after Asia Cup) as it depends on them (BCB) I suppose,” Read also: Kuldeep Benched Despite Spin Pitch, Morkel Explains Why Wood, who has previously worked in the nation while with Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League, discussed his plans with the new position with the national team and what comes along. “I think the key for me is there's a lot of talent there. They've always had talent. When it comes to white-ball cricket, striking the ball is obviously a major part of the game now. It (my job) will be to give them information and the key thing is how to use their power, how to generate their power, and use that power more efficiently,” added Wood. Wood, who made a key contribution to overhauling England's white-ball structure before, is believed to be far from being the singular individual to be brought into the Bangladeshi system. David Scott, who has assisted the team's High Performance Unit, is also said to be acting in the position of a sport psychologist.
