If fitness was a criterion of performance by team on the ground, then Bangladesh sadly is not going well on both fronts. The Asia Cup 2025 has barely a month to go, and the latest fitness camp of the Bangladesh cricket team, has not been too encouraging. According to a report published in Cricbuzz, in the 1600m run test on Sunday, at the National Stadium, out of 22 players who took part, the majority of them produced disappointing reports. Whereas the players were previously tracked by the yo-yo test, since new strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily has joined, the emphasis now turns to 1600m run, with 40m sprints. What was appalling is — pacer Mustafizur Rahman, as well as Taskin Ahmed, Tanvir Islam and Shamim Patowary completed it in nearly eight minutes, which is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination. Going back to the test, Mehedi Hasan Miraz was second in the first batch of players with 6 minutes and 1 second. Surprisingly, Mushfiqur Rahim, aged 38 now, took 6 minutes and 10 seconds. The best in the second batch was Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who completed the mark in 5 minutes and 53 seconds. Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Parvez Hossain Emon also finished their task in 6 minutes. Skipper Liton Das and Towhid Hridoy were the two players to fail in the fitness test. The fitness camp will now proceed to Sylhet on August 20.
