The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was in controversy from the moment its election results were declared on Monday, October 6. Within hours of the announcement, the government ousted Ishfaq Ahsan, one of the two newly-elected government members of the BCB board. Ahsan's political affiliations led the National Sports Council (NSC), the body responsible for sports in the country, to act quickly. ESPNcricinfo states that the NSC is likely to nominate a female director to replace him. The development has led to debates regarding the role of politics in Bangladesh cricket administration. A one-day BCB election, with both physical and e-ballots, was conducted in a Dhaka hotel on Monday, October 6. Re-elected as president was Aminul Islam, who will have charge of the working committee, grounds committee, and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) committee. First-time director Khaled Mashud, a former Bangladesh captain, has been entrusted with the High Performance Centre, while first-time director Abdur Razzak, former spinner and also a new face in the boardroom, was named chairman of the women's wing. Bangladesh age-group cricket will be headed by famous singer Asif Akbar now. The elections were, however, surrounded by several controversies. Past captain Tamim Iqbal stepped out of the contest, complaining of interference, after BCB chairman Aminul Islam sent out a letter requesting new nominations for the first category of the elections. The letter, which had been cleared by Bangladesh's courts only a day ago ahead of the polls, contributed to the tense atmosphere around the process. The elections represent continuity and change in Bangladesh cricket administration, with old hands holding on while a number of first-time directors hold important positions.
