After a frustrating and heartbreaking whitewash against Afghanistan in the recently concluded ODI series, Bangladesh will now look to move on when they host West Indies in a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series starting on October 18 in Dhaka. Litton Das will miss the series as he is yet to completely recover from his injury. In an interesting move, Bangladesh have added two extra batters in this series. Mohammad Naim and Nahid Rana have been left out of the squad; batters Soumya Sarkar and Mahidul Islam Ankon have been included in their place. Naim and Rana both played in the final ODI against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, which Bangladesh lost by 200 runs. Naim was only able to score just 23 runs, while Rana had gone wicketless in the match. Soumya Sarkar is all set to make his ODI return after missing the T20I against Afghanistan as his UAE visa couldn’t be processed in time, which restricted him from participating in the series. His last ODI appearance came in February earlier this year. Mahidul has earned his call-up due to his solid form in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Bangladesh’s premier List A tournament, over the last two years. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain have retained their places in the squad despite their poor outing against Afghanistan in the ODI series. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain will be seen leading the spin attack once again, while pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed have retained their spots. The first ODI match between Bangladesh and West Indies will be played in Dhaka on October 18, followed by the second and third ODI matches on October 21 and 23, respectively.
