Former Pakistan pacer Shabbir Ahmed has levelled serious allegations against Team India following their narrow victory against England in the fifth Test at The Oval. India were in peril when Harry Brook and Joe Root were playing aggressively, propelling England to 301/3 in their pursuit of 374. However, bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna restored India to the game. They bowled out England for 367, securing a six-run victory for India. The pitch at The Oval was the best in the series. Both the batters and bowlers got a fair opportunity. Even on the final day, the old ball was moving a great deal in the air, which made it difficult for the batters to play. India could have availed themselves of a new ball after 80 overs, but they stuck with the old one because it was swinging extensively, and the strategy paid off. Shabbir Ahmed, however, was skeptical. He posted on social media platform X that something was amiss. He even requested the match officials to have the ball tested in a lab, suggesting ball-tampering might be afoot. On X, Shabbir Ahmed wrote: "I think India used Vaseline. After 80 + over Ball still shine like new Umpire should send this ball to lab for examine." Even so, India seemed strong throughout the series. They did lose two games, but even in those, they were dominating for most of the time. They simply couldn't capitalize on big moments. Ultimately, India drew the series 2-2 and came back home with their heads held high. One major plus was that every player who was given a chance made it worthwhile and showed that they belonged to the team.
