Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai has been issued with one demerit point for a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct in the second ODI against Ireland. Omarzai was penalised for expressing disagreement with the umpire for a dismissal in Afghanistan's innings. The series of events occurred in the 41st over of the rain-affected match when the Afghanistan batter expressed displeasure with the decision. On Tuesday, 11th of August, the International Cricket Council responded to Omarzai. He was found guilty by Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for showing dissent at an umpire's decision. Omarzai was caught off a caught behind appeal from Ireland wicketkeeper Lorcan Tucker. The Afghanistan batsman remained in the crease after the decision and made his feelings known before walking off. Why Azmatullah Omarzai Was Punished by ICC This happened on the 5th delivery of the 41st over. Ireland bowler Jai Moondra delivered a wide ball, which Omarzai tried to play with his bat. The ball rushed to wicketkeeper Tucker, who cried for a catch. The umpire upheld the appeal and dismissed Omarzai. The Afghanistan all-rounder, however, seemed to be unhappy with that call and was slow to walk away. He exchanged words with the umpire. Omarzai had scored 33 runs off 24 balls before getting out. During his batting, he hit three fours and two sixes. He subsequently pleaded guilty and was willing to accept the punishment suggested by Dean Cosker of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thus avoiding the need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Gareth Morrison and Roly Black, third umpire Johnny Kennedy and fourth umpire George Brolly filed the charge. Omarzai's first disciplinary point in the past 2 years is a demerit point. According to the ICC Code of Conduct, a Level 1 offence could result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee and 1 or 2 demerit points. The order was issued following Afghanistan's comprehensive victory in the second one-day international. They scored 299 for eight in a 47-over game that was curtailed due to rain, and then dismissed Ireland for 207. The win by 92 runs gave Afghanistan a 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series after the first game was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
