Ayush Shukla, a Hong Kong medium pacer created history in a recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A match against Mongolia in Kuala Lumpur. He became the first in the world and equaled the record by bowling four successive maiden overs in a T20I, accomplished so far only once before by Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand.Opening the bowling for Hong Kong, Shukla set the tone right from the very first over, taking a wicket off the last ball. He went on to bowl 18 consecutive dot balls after that and returned with fantastic figures of 4-4-0-1 for his spell. The Indian-origin bowler has represented Hong Kong in 35 T20I matches, scalping 30 wickets at an average of 28.90 and an economy rate of 8.29. With this performance, he became the first Asian and the third bowler ever in T20I history to achieve this. The record was first set by Canada’s T20I captain Saad Bin Zafar against Panama in 2021, and later matched by New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson against Papua New Guinea in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Shukla’s impressive bowling helped Hong Kong secure a big win. His teammate Ehsan Khan also had a standout performance, taking 4 wickets for just 5 runs, which helped dismiss Mongolia for only 17 runs in 14.2 overs.
