The newly appointed T20I vice captain of India, Axar Patel, has stated that, baring the openers, all players should be flexible with their batting positions, considering the demands of the situation. India is set to kick off their campaign against England in a five-match T20I series, starting on Wednesday at Eden Gardens. While asked about the batting positions of the players, Axar confirmed that Sanju Samson will be opening. Axar stated, "Openers are fixed. Then from No. 3 to 7, everyone was told you can go as per situation wise, depending on the combinations, match-ups. There is no fixed position. Not for me only, but it is the same for everyone. It is about adjusting (to the demands of the situation)." Axar Patel further claimed that, as vice captain, he is involved in key decisions but faces little pressure, given the settled T20 team. He added, "The T20 team is settled. There is not much pressure. When you are in the leadership group you have to make some harsh decisions. These are the discussions we have."
