Even though he does not have a marked captaincy experience like other candidates, he had stepped up as a leader, having captained the franchise once when Rishabh Pant was banned for a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024, due to a slow over-rate offense. Axar Patel has been a vital all-rounder for Delhi Capitals, contributing consistently with both bat and ball. He has taken 123 wickets in 150 IPL matches at an economy of 7.27, with his best figures being 4/21. His standout bowling season came in 2021, when he claimed 15 wickets at an impressive average of 20.40. Apart from his bowling, Axar has developed into a reliable lower-order batter. He has played several vital cameos, often rescuing DC from tough situations with his aggressive stroke play. His ability to clear the ropes and rotate the strike makes him a dependable finisher. With the bat, Axar has scored 1653 runs at a strike rate of 130.87, proving to be a reliable lower-order batter. His highest score of 66 came in IPL 2024, where he amassed 235 runs at an average of 29.37. The 2023 season was also remarkable, with 283 runs at a strike rate of 139.40.
