Australia (AUS) sent South Africa (SA) packing for a meager score of 138 runs in the first innings of the WTC Final 2025 (World Test Championship) to take a healthy lead of 74 runs on a difficult surface to bat on at the Home of Cricket, Lord's. Pat Cummins was the best among the bowlers, who bowled through the batting line-up and sealed the milestone of 300 Test wickets with a 6-fer against his name. Pursuing Australia's 212, SA lost Aiden Markram's wicket in the first over of the inning courtesy a brilliant ball from Mitchell Starc. Ryan Rickelton also couldn't hang around, as the left-arm pacer got his second wicket of the inning. That followed was Pat Cummins' ball-bowling masterclass. The Australian captain sent back Wiaan Mulder, followed by the fall of Tristan Stubbs, at the mercy of a brilliant delivery by Josh Hazlewood. At stumps on Day 1, South Africa were at 43/4. On Day 2, SA really gained momentum, as a nice partnership was witnessed between Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham. Pat Cummins then dismissed Kyle Verreynne with a brilliant DRS call and followed that up with a stunning caught and bowled to send Marco Jansen packing. The Australian captain bowled a decent delivery and got the outside edge of Bedingham's willow, with Carey not making any errors to see his captain bag a fifer at the Home of Cricket. South Africa folded from 94/4 at one point to 135/8 in the second session of the second day in no time. Keshav Maharaj fell victim to a run-out, and Cummins sent Kagiso Rabada back to the pavilion to get SA out for 138 in their first innings. In so doing, he took 6/28 in his 18.1 overs, including six maiden overs. Cummins also achieved the feat of taking 300 Test wickets after sending Rabada back.
