Cricket Australia has decided to invite the living legends from the 1977 England team to attend the celebration of 150 years of Test match history. Even though not planned officially, Cricket Australia is looking forward to hosting a one-off pink ball Test match at Melbourne to mark the 150th year. As per plans, the match will be hosted from March 11 to 15 in Melbourne. The board is expecting a massive crowd of 100,000 each day to witness the extravaganza. Who will be invited in the 150 years of Test cricket celebration? Cricket Australia held a meeting on Tuesday, where they were planning to make the event remarkable. In that meeting, they have decided to invite all the English players who took part in the Test match that marked the 100 years of Test cricket history. The list includes Mike Brearley, currently 83, Dennis Amiss (82), Keith Fletcher (81); Alan Knott (79), Derek Randall (74), Chris Old (76) and John Lever (76). These players, in his 70s and 80s, are expected to fly over ten thousand miles to take part in the event. Well, four players from the 100 year celebration test—Bob Willis, Bob Woolmer, Derek Underwood and Tony Greig—have passed away. So their families will be receiving the invitation. Dave Gregory was captain of the home side, while James Lillywhite Junior led the England side. Charles Bannerman was the only centurion of the match (165), with Australia scoring 245 in the first innings and 104 in the second. England managed 196 in the first and was bundled out in 108 runs, being defeated by 45 runs. In 1977, the Test match that 100 years of Test cricket history saw the same result—Australia winning by 45 runs at the same Melbourne. Australia scored 138 and 419 runs in the two innings. England was bowled out for 95 and then managed 417; however, they got defeated by 45 runs. Notably, this match was attended by players from both sides who have played at least three or more Ashes series.
