Cricket Australia announced a 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup on Friday. Alyssa Healy has been announced as the captain, with several new faces to play the 50-over World Cup for the first time. Players like Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Kim Garth are those who have received their maiden ODI World Cup call. Grace Harris, who was a part of the 2022 ODI World Cup hosted in New Zealand, might get to play a match in the 2025 edition. Meanwhile, Sophie Molineux is recovering from a knee injury. Whether she will be playing the ODI Series pre-World Cup is not certain. But she is expected to return for the marquee tournament. Speaking about the ODI series, Australia will have a preparatory India tour, where the team will play three ODI matches against the host from September 14 to 20. The matches will be played in New Chandigarh and New Delhi. Notably, Nicole Faltum and Charli Knott are added to the squad for the ODI series. However, they will be retreating back to the country before the World Cup commences, as they will be playing the Women’s National Cricket League. The valuable experience the squad has gained from several sub-continent tours in recent years, as well as exposure through the Women’s Premier League will be beneficial in tackling the unique demands of Indian conditions. Across the winter we’ve seen some terrific performances right through the group – whether that be through the Australia A series, The Hundred or domestic cricket in England – with players personalising their preparations, which looks to have put them in good stead." He further said, "Nicole Faltum and Charli Knott continue to impress and will join the squad for the three ODIs as part of their ongoing development, before returning home for the opening rounds of the WNCL. The extended nature of an ODI World Cup can be a challenge, and we believe this group has the depth and versatility to meet those demands." Jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the Women's ODI World Cup will be starting on September 20, with India facing Sri lanka at Guwahati. Australia's first match in the tournament is on October 1, against Trans-Tasman rivals, New Zealand, in Indore. The two semifinals are scheduled on October 29 and 30, with the final to be held on November 2nd.
