Cricket Australia have rested their key Test players for the upcoming home T20I series against Pakistan while they have announced the squad but they are yet to announce their official captain for this series. The pace attack of Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson is set to return from injury, adding strength to the squad as Australia have rested their star Test players ahead of the critical India series. However, with recent T20I captains Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head unavailable, the selection committee has yet to name a captain. The players being rested for this T20I series include Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh, and Travis Head. Additionally, all-rounder Cameron Green is sidelined due to injury and will miss the upcoming Australian summer. According to ESPNcricinfo, Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, or Matt Short are among the likely candidates to step into the captaincy role. George Bailey, the chairman of selectors, mentioned that the decision regarding the captaincy would be finalized as the series draws nearer. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Bailey said: "I think there's a number of players with the ability to captain and some that have had some captaincy experience as well. We'll work through that." Australia's T20I series will see a fresh coaching lineup, as head coach Andrew McDonald, batting coach Michael Di Venuto, and bowling coach Daniel Vettori are taking a short break ahead of the upcoming BGT. Stepping in, assistant coach Andre Borovec will coach the squad, with Brad Hodge joining him as an assistant coach to support the team.
