Marnus Labuschagne's tough trot in the current ODI series against South Africa went on as he got out for a low score once again. Following 1 of 6 deliveries in the opening match at Cairns, the Australian middle-order batter's poor form continued in the second ODI against South Africa at Great Barrier Reef Arena. In mere 5 balls, Labuschagne's disappointing series went on as he got out cheaply for another single run. This dismissal was another blow in a sequence where the Australian top order has not been able to achieve consistency. The wicket arrived during the 3.3 over of the second ODI, with Lungi Ngidi delivering the breakthrough for South Africa. Ngidi delivered a ball that was just a fraction wider outside off, and Labuschagne, in a bid to drive, was frustrated by the slight outside edge and the ball nip off the seam. Labuschagne's attempt at making contact only saw him nick a regulation edge to the keeper, †Rickelton, who did not make any error in grasping the catch. Labuschagne's inability to get going in the second game, following a mediocre first match, added to the pressure on his shoulders. His dismissal at 7/2 for Australia only intensified their initial woes in the pursuit. The delivery, on a good length outside the off-stump, was one that Labuschagne would have found easy to leave behind, but perhaps his intention was to drive, and that resulted in an easy return catch. In spite of pressure building on the middle order, Labuschagne's failure to form partnerships continuously has left the Australian team looking for solidity in the top order. Josh Inglis scored a gritty half-century, but the rest of the team couldn't provide him with any backup. Even with some dropped catches, South Africa never lost grip on the game. This is their fifth straight bilateral ODI series victory over Australia.
