Legendary Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has highlighted an important change he believes should be made to cricket rules regarding when a ball is considered out of play after an umpire's decision. He referenced a recent incident from the fourth T20I of the current series involving opening batter and vice-captain Shubman Gill. For those who might not know, Gill was given out lbw on the very first ball of the 14th over. Confident that he had edged the ball before it struck his pads, the Indian T20I vice-captain immediately opted for a review. The replays revealed a significant inside edge onto the pad, leading to the decision being overturned, and India keeping their review intact. At the time of the umpire's call, Gill had already completed a single while batting alongside skipper Suryakumar Yadav. However, even though he was eventually ruled not out, the single was nullified because the ball was deemed dead. Irfan argued that teams should be awarded runs in such situations, and the ball shouldn't be called dead. Axar Patel, with his impressive all-round performance (21* off 11 balls and 2/20 in 4 overs), was named Player of the Match. Gill topped the scoring for the Men in Blue with 46 runs off 39 balls, while Washington Sundar took three wickets in just 1.2 overs, giving away only three runs. Under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, the team now leads the series two matches to one. The final match of this white-ball series is set to take place at the Brisbane Cricket Ground on November 8 (Saturday). India faced a 2-1 defeat in the ODI segment, with Australia securing the series by winning the first two 50-over matches. However, India bounced back in the dead rubber, winning by nine wickets with 69 balls to spare. After the final T20I, the team will return to India to face South Africa in a comprehensive series that includes two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The squad for the two-match red-ball series has already been announced.
