Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi might get a brief County Championship stint in England as the BCCI is aiming to keep him sharp for India's upcoming two Tests against New Zealand scheduled for November, PTI reports. Nabi took 60 wickets in the last season of the Ranji Trophy, and he was the most successful bowler in the last domestic season. But he failed to make the playing eleven of India for the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The BCCI now want to allow the 24-year-old to play more red-ball cricket before the New Zealand series. According to a BCCI source: “The BCCI is trying to get his UK visa, and upon arrival, he might leave for the UK." As per the report, Surrey are in need of a swing bowler, and negotiations are in progress to have Nabi play a handful of County Championship games for the London-based club. BCCI Wants Auqib Nabi to Play Red-Ball Cricket The BCCI feels that playing in English conditions should prepare Nabi for his game against New Zealand. The source said: “So, BCCI is looking for at least two to three red-ball games for Auqib in England, which will be handy." Nabi was not included in the Indian XI against Sri Lanka, with Brar also omitted from selection. As Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were given a workload-management breather, Brar will be a part of the North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy semi-final, starting from 30 th August against South Zone. A BCCI source said: “It was a decision taken by the Indian team think-tank (team management and selection committee) that Gurnoor will be playing the Duleep Trophy. Already Arshdeep (Singh) and Anshul Kamboj are in the playing eleven, and Gurnoor will replace Sunil Kumar." But the attention on Nabi is certainly there, with the selectors picking him as a potential choice for the New Zealand Tests. So, a couple of games would not be bad for him while Gurnoor plays the Duleep Trophy." Nabi has established a good first-class record of his own, taking 162 wickets in 43 matches at an economy of 2.9, making him one of the top red-ball bowlers in domestic cricket. Some of the Indian players have also utilised county cricket to ease themselves into Test duty. Manav Suthar played two matches for Warwickshire, while Kuldeep Yadav made a return to England for red-ball cricket with Yorkshire. Ashutosh Sharma has played for Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Should the visa process be concluded, Nabi could gain valuable match practice in England prior to rejoining the Indian set-up ahead of the New Zealand series.
