Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa believes that MS Dhoni remains the fastest wicketkeeper in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and that his passion for the game continues to drive him forward. Despite being 43, Dhoni remains an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), both as a leader and as a player. Uthappa, who played alongside Dhoni at CSK, believes that the veteran cricketer still has excellent wicketkeeping skills and could continue playing for several more seasons. "I don't think the passion ever dies for MS. I think his passion for the game keeps him going. At 43, I think he's got the fastest hands in the world as a wicketkeeper. And if you've got those skills, I don't think anything should stop you. I won't be surprised if he retires at the end of the season. But I won't be surprised if he even goes on to play for another four seasons after this,” Uthappa said, as quoted by PTI. Speaking about Dhoni’s batting role, Uthappa expects the former Indian captain to continue playing as a lower-order finisher, contributing in the final overs of the innings. "I think we will get to see glimpses of his brilliance because I have a feeling that he might bat at number 7 or number 8. Very much like last year, and we will see him bat between 12 and 20 balls through the season," Uthappa said. Over the years, Dhoni has been known for his ability to accelerate in the death overs and finish matches for his team. However, in the last season, he batted lower down the order and went big from ball one. Uthappa believes that Dhoni's role will remain the same in this edition as well. 'In the recent past, Rohit hasn't lived up to his potential' Uthappa also spoke about the Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s form heading into IPL 2025. The former Mumbai Indians batter admitted that Rohit has struggled to meet expectations in recent seasons but believes this could be a turning point for him. "In the recent past, Rohit hasn't lived up to his potential as the incredibly dynamic batter that he is in the IPL. But it looks like everything is going his way at this point in time. So, I wouldn't put it past him to have one of his best seasons in the IPL," Uthappa added. Rohit Sharma, who led India to the trophy in the T20 World Cup 2024, will be playing his first T20 match since announcing his international retirement from the format. He will be opening the innings for the franchise once again, as Mumbai Indians look to reclaim the IPL title. Both Dhoni and Rohit will be in action on March 23 as Chennai Super Kings host Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
