Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has urged fans not to miss the chance to witness MS Dhoni in action, even as Chennai Super Kings continue to struggle in IPL 2025. Chennai Super Kings are the first team to be knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs. The five-time champions are having a season to forget. However, Finch wants the fans to get behind the former Indian captain. Reflecting on CSK's season and the weight on Dhoni's shoulders, Finch highlighted the emotional and sporting significance of the iconic wicketkeeper-batter. “When Dhoni gave up the captaincy a few years ago, I don’t think he thought he’d have to deal with all this again. But it hasn’t gone CSK’s way this season. MS is 43, not playing much cricket, just turning up for the IPL, but every moment he’s on the field is magical. The noise when he walks out of the dressing room… when he comes out to bat, it’s unbelievable,” Finch said during an appearance on JioStar. He added a heartfelt appeal to fans around the world, saying that they must enjoy MS Dhoni while he is still playing. “I urge every cricket fan. If you can, you must go to a CSK game while MS Dhoni is still playing.” ‘They need to go back to the drawing board’: Finch questions CSK’s team choices While Finch was effusive in his praise for Dhoni, he didn’t shy away from critiquing Chennai’s on-field performances and decision-making this season. With multiple errors across batting, bowling, and fielding, Finch believes CSK need a serious rethink. “If CSK are admitting things haven’t gone right, then yes — they need to go back to the drawing board. I can’t believe Nathan Ellis hasn’t played more regularly. He’s a world-class bowler who can operate in all three phases. Meanwhile, Pathirana’s been going around the park and not executing like he used to,” Finch said. Finch also pointed out CSK’s struggles with finishing and fielding: “CSK have lacked finishing ability with the bat, you add 20 more runs today and the game becomes very different. I actually thought they had enough runs until the heavy dew came in late. But overall, the fielding has been poor, with catches going down. That puts you on the back foot — and when that happens, you need to play a near-perfect game to win.” Also READ: Shreyas Iyer punished for code of conduct breach during CSK vs PBKS Despite being out of the play-off race, now the five-time champions will have the opportunity to play a spoilsport in other teams' playoff chances.
