Asif Ali has made official retirement from all types of international cricket. The inefficient middle-order batter last appeared for Pakistan in October 2023. Asif played 21 ODIs and 58 T20Is throughout his international career from 2018 to 2023. The 33-year-old had recently made the announcement on a social media post, thanking Pakistan cricket. He mentioned that in the future, he will be playing cricket on a domestic and franchise league level. Here is what Asif posted on social media: "Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket. Wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life and serving my country on the cricket field has been my proudest chapter. I retire with immense gratitude and will continue to share my passion for the game by playing domestic and league cricket worldwide," Also Read | Watch old video resurfaced: Harbhajan Singh slapping Sreesanth Asif was summoned to the T20I squad against West Indies in April 2018 after a series of top-notch performances for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He came out for his ODI debut just two months later. He was a victim of patchy selection in spite of sporadic flashes of brilliance. Asif could turn up late into the innings and be a finisher in the 50-over game. He was sometimes promoted up the order too, in the same game. He averaged more than seven balls per innings across his 58 matches and was unbeaten in about one-fourth of his T20I appearances. The figure points to how under-employed he was. He played for a range of franchise leagues apart from the PSL. Asif played for franchises in the Big Bash League (BBL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Mzansi Super League and the Lanka Premier League (LPL). In total, he compiled 382 runs at a strike rate of 121.65 and average of 25.46 in 21 ODIs while he compiled 577 runs at a strike rate of 133.87 in 58 T20Is for Pakistan.
