The Dubai Police have initiated a large security operation plan prior to the Asia Cup, with thousands of fans expected to descend on the city for the UAE's meeting with tournament favourites India on Wednesday, September 10. The authorities assured that special patrols would be placed around the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai Sports City, which has been hosting a number of high-profile matches during the tournament. The eight-nation tournament, featuring the best of Asian cricketing nations, started on Tuesday, September 9, and will end on September 28 with the final in Dubai. There are also matches planned in Abu Dhabi, while the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash will be held in Dubai on Sunday, September 14. Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Commander in Chief for Operations Maj Gen Saif Al Mazrouei confirmed that the police force has closely collaborated with organisers to have the event run smoothly. He admitted that their aim is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all spectators. Heavy traffic and large crowds will be experienced in the UAE-India match and the authorities called on people to give themselves plenty of time for their journey and to use public transport wherever possible, as parking close to the ground will be restricted. While Dubai Sports City has no direct access to the Metro, supporters are able to take the Red Line to the Dubai Internet City station and then the F34 bus to Sports City. The journey by bus takes approximately 20 minutes, and after that there is only a seven-minute walk to the stadium. With increased security and transport coordination in place, officials are still confident that the Asia Cup will be successfully staged.
