India on Tuesday, August 19, revealed a 15-member team for the next version of the Asia Cup, to be hosted by the UAE from September 9-28. The selection panel, chairman Ajit Agarkar chose a powerful unit as India seek to clinch a record-extending ninth title. Following the announcement of the squad, India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Suryakumar Yadav spoke to the media in a press conference. The biggest talking point from the squad announcement was the comeback of Jasprit Bumrah in the T20I squad for the first time since the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa in June. Agarkar stated that there is no rigid plan for managing Bumrah's workload. The former India bowler stated that the Men in Blue will seek the 31-year-old's services in all major assignments. Here is what Agarkar said in the press conference: "I don't think there's any written plan. Been a nice break after the England series. Physios, team management been in touch. Clearly, we want him available for all the big games. There are WCs, CT, big series like England, Australia - you want him available. Because he's picked up injuries over the last 2-3 years, because of how special and unique it is - it won't change. Based on how he's feeling and how we require him, we hope he's available more often than not," It has recently been communicated that Bumrah had told the selectors that he was ready to play for India in the Asia Cup. Besides Bumrah, the team also has Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana as specialist seamers. Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube are the pace-bowling all-rounders of the team. In the spin-bowling section, India have the services of Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel in their side. Speaking of Bumrah, the seasoned pacer had featured in only three of the five Tests against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He was taken to task by a few analysts and supporters for choosing and deselecting matches. Nevertheless, the team management wanted to oversee his workload for assignments in the future. With Bumrah returning to action in the shortest version, India's chances of holding on to the Asia Cup appear bright.
