Star India bowler Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 11th five-wicket haul in the (WTC) World Test Championship. With this feat, he surpassed the legendary Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Ashwin achieved this amazing feat against Bangladesh in the first test at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He picked up six wickets to direct India to a dominating victory over Bangladesh. This was Ashwin’s 11th five-wicket haul in the WTC; overall, he has 37 five-wicket hauls in test cricket. He played a very important role for team India in the first test match against Bangladesh. Firstly, he rescued India with his stunning century and then with his six wickets to wrap up the match. He has been a key man for India in the WTC, picking up 180 wickets for his team. He is now second on the list of most wickets in WTC, replacing Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins and now he is just behind Nathan Lyon who is leading with 187 wickets. He has been contributing with his bat and ball. He is the only Indian player to score five test centuries and to pick over 500 wickets in test cricket. He has created his legacy in test cricket, playing 100 matches for team India. With the help of all-round performance of the Chennai boy, India defeated Bangladesh with 280 runs. India were down in this match when they lost early wickets in the first inning. He showed great character and had a match-saving partnership with his mate Ravindra Jadeja. Both the all-rounders assisted India to a total of 376. Ashwin scored 113 runs, and Jadeja missed his ton with just 14 runs. Overall India gave a dominating performance in the first test match of the series. The batters performed really well, bowlers were brilliant. Centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant gave India a strong position in the match. Chasing a mammoth total of 515, Bangladesh could only score 234.
