India recovered with the help of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India was struggling at 144 for 6 after dismissing top orders by bowler Hasan Mahmud. However, it was Ashwin and Jadeja who came to the rescue by scoring more than 100 runs collectively for the seventh wicket and boosting India's total. Now, Ashwin and Jadeja join Kapil Dev and Syed Kirmani in a very special list of Indian batting pairs. Only these two Indian batting pairs have scored over 500 runs together for the 7th wicket or lower in Test matches played at home Team India was in trouble once again during the early second session following the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal. In the morning, top orders like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli scored in single digit, and Gill was dismissed on duck. KL Rahul also departed to Mehidy Hasan Miraz after a short innings. Hasan Mahmud took four wickets in the early stages, but Ashwin and Jadeja bounced back. Ashwin began to score with boundaries quickly whereas Jadeja let him take the lead. Both reached fifty runs each in the final session on Thursday, with their partnership going over 130 runs. A strong performance by Ashwin and Jadeja does open up the test season for India on a good note. Team India is trying to make it to their third World Test Championship final and is leading right now in the points standings. They have 9 more Tests to play. Five of these will be at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand, and the other five will be in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
