Arshdeep Singh recently made the headlines when he deleted all the posts, reels, and highlights on his Instagram related to the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The decision has come after the team shockingly chose not to retain him for the IPL 2025 mega auction. The left-arm pacer has been one of the most outstanding performers for PBKS in the years that have passed and has also played a significant role in the bowling lineup for the team. He showed his skills in the 2024 men's T20 World Cup where he was one of the top bowlers for India. He ended the tournament as a joint-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in eight matches. His outstanding performance cemented his reputation as India's second-best T20 pacer after Jasprit Bumrah. Despite his contributions to the team and the franchise's history with him, PBKS decided not to retain Arshdeep. He reportedly was let go because of the price tag on him. They did not want to spend ₹18 crore on him, a decision that many find baffling because of his importance to Indian cricket and his proven track record. Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson were also given the same number of amount even though they are not the regular players for team India like Arshdeep. It might indicate that he was not receiving the value or respect back from the franchise in question for all his hard work. He had done way more than being a good player for PBKS-he became an icon to Punjab's fans. To them, he represented the face of the franchise that portrayed the pride and hope for a successful IPL campaign. Going further, this is a decision allowing Arshdeep to walk away could also make it weaker on PBKS' part to go into the auction. The team has to scramble now to get him again. Other franchises will be aware of the interest; thus, this will give them an easier time at negotiating. The dynamics of the auction is quite complex. There could be a situation if the name of Arshdeep comes up early: rivals might push up the price, leaving PBKS with a very difficult thing on their hands. All set with a handsome purse of ₹110.5 crores, PBKS haven't exactly shown good skills regarding auctions. Losing an established player like Arshdeep could turn out to be their worst mistake ahead of new season. Fans would eagerly look forward to seeing how things pan out at the auction and whether PBKS could reclaim a player who is almost synonymous with their identity in the league.
