India's new stars are embarking on a new journey as Virat Kohli declares his Test retirement. For the first time, they won't be battling it out with a game giant for a place. But they now have to cope with the task of filling up the gap he creates. Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and others will no longer benefit from the constant backing that Kohli and Rohit Sharma used to offer. As Rohit well put it, the "garden me ghumne wala" generation is now Indian Test cricket's face. Are they prepared to take on the responsibility, however? Shubman Gill is set to be the new face of Indian cricket. He's set to captain the team in England and is already regarded as the "Prince" waiting to succeed the "King" Kohli. Rishabh Pant, though his recent form has been unpredictable, is still a big name. Although his recent scoring hasn't been great, his unorthodox style and charm keep him in the limelight. Of the three, Yashasvi Jaiswal seems the most dependable with the bat. He has already performed well in Australia and impressed at home against England. Now is the England tour with a new platform to impress. He did captain India to a win in a series in Australia, though. But Pant's career has always fluctuated between greatness and unpredictability. Since debuting in England in 2018, he's averaged 42.11 in 75 innings and 37.59 in away Tests. That's decent figures, if a tad spasmodic. But he's been disappointing since coming back from injury. But he'll probably be named vice-captain. Jaiswal, the latest addition to this trio, has perhaps been the greatest among them. With 52.88 from 19 Tests, he has risen to every challenge. In Australia, he made 391 at 43.44, quieting critics. But it was the home series against England which sent hearts racing 712 runs in 9 innings at a staggering average of 89.00. He's India's new Test run-machine. But in Tests, so far, his career has not really taken flight. With 32 Tests and a career average of 35.05, and a paltry 29.50 overseas, he has work to do. As a future Test skipper, every single innings will be scrutinized. At 26, Gill's real test begins now. While the spotlight rests on Gill, Pant, and Jaiswal, India's red-ball pool is deep. Sarfaraz Khan also joined with a heap of domestic runs. While injured presently and slightly technically challenged, there are others in line like Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Dhruv Jurel. IPL's Mr. Consistent, Sai Sudharsan, boasts a first-class average of 39.93. He's left the experts aghast with his calm demeanor and looks all set to join the squad for the England series his first major international task.
