The hopes of Mumbai Indians to reach the playoff stage have taken a serious blow as another loss against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026. The team now have lost seven out of nine games and would require some massive wins to turn their luck around. MI had a positive start at the game as openers Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir had played the aggressive shots to keep the pressure on the CSK bowlers. But after the openers were dismissed the middle order failed to follow the start and kept scoring at a poor rate and concluded the inning on 159/7. In response, CSK chased down the target comfortably with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad playing a fine unbeaten half-century. He was well supported by young Kartik Sharma, who registered his maiden IPL half-century. CSK reached the target in just 18.1 overs with eight wickets to spare. The MI team are at the last place in the points table having 4 points in 9 matches and to qualify for the playoffs one should secure at least 16 points and in the best case they will reach 14 points in the points table and will have to depend on other teams results and on NRR. The MI team need to win the next 5 matches to get qualified to the play offs It's likely that MI won't reach the playoffs since the top teams-Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals-have secured 13 and 12 points respectively and will most probably avoid dropping enough points to be overtaken by MI. Gujarat Titans and CSK are fifth and sixth with 10 and eight points respectively. Considering MI's current run winning five matches on the trot against various strong teams in the league seems improbable and would require a great deal of luck if they were to do so. The MI outfit have consistently failed to produce consistent results and it seems that they won't be participating in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
