Pakistan's musical chairs of head coaches has a latest participant now as the job has been given to ex-New Zealand player and head coach Mike Hesson in the announcement made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday, May 13. Hesson, who was previously worked with RCB and PBKS in IPL, will join the team on May 26 just after the conclusion of the PSL where he is serving as the head coach of Islamabad United. While announcing Mike Hesson as the new white-ball head coach, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said "I am pleased to announce the appointment of former New Zealand cricketer and renowned coach Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men's team, Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a proven track record of developing competitive sides. We look forward to his expertise and leadership in shaping the future of Pakistan's white-ball cricket. Welcome to the team, Mike!" Meanwhile, Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the director of team performance. Hesson has had a pretty successful coaching career so far. While he coached Islamabad United to the PSL title in 2024 after taking them to the playoffs in 2023, he was also the Director of Cricket Operations at RCB from 2019-2023 playing a crucial part in RCB making the playoffs three out of four times. Before that, Hesson was also the head coach for PBKS in 2018. As far as international experience goes, Hesson has coached the New Zealand's men's team from 2012-2018 and it was under him where they reached the final in the 2015 ODI World Cup. His first assignment as head coach will be the home T20 series against Bangladesh which was scheduled to start from 25th May but now will have to be pushed back due to the PSL being delayed.
