After the first 3 days of the much-hyped Lord's test being a slow burner, the fourth day has suddenly turned this match into an absolute nail biter, heading into fifth and final day. As the situation currently stands, India require 135 more runs with 6 wickets in hand. While KL Rahul has looked in good touch and has held one end firmly, the visitors have kept losing wickets from the other end which has landed them in a spot of bother. After losing Yashashvi Jaiswal very early in the chase, there seemed to be a decent partnership brewing between Rahul and Karun Nair but once again Nair was dismissed after being set and fell to a not-so extraordinary delivery. His dismissal was enough to open the floodgates in the last 30 minutes of play. India soon lost their skipper Shubman Gill and then Akash Deep in the final over of the day, giving an edge to the hosts. It looked like the English players didn't let themselves forget it and after the fall of Nair, they were all over Gill and his team. Each and every delivery appeared to be a chance for a wicket, the crowd was behind their home team and the fielders definitely seemed to enjoy it. There were several appeals in a short period of time against the Indian captain before he was actually dismissed. Gill never looked comfortable and settled in that pressure situation and was quite tentative with his footwork and shot selection. He was given out LBW after a sharp nip-backer from Brydon Carse found him in front of the sticks. Night-watchman Akash Deep did survive ten balls and ensured his partner (Rahul) was unbeaten overnight but succumbed in the last over of the day facing England's captain Ben Stokes. Bowling Unit Steps Up Earlier in the day, India did amazingly well to restrict their opposition below 200. After having levelled scores at the end of both of the 1st innings, the English side was bowled out on 192. The pitch seemed to have all kinds of demons during the 1st session of day four. Jasprit Bumrah and Md. Siraj bowled magnificently in the morning, extracting variable bounce and thus causing troubles to the hosts. The Indian side picked up 4 wickets in the first session and thus got a strong hold. Stokes and Joe Root once again spent a good amount of time on the pitch together and built a decent partnership. That's when Washington Sundar arrived and wrecked havoc. He went on to rattle the stumps of 4 English players. Sundar's exceptional spell combined with Bumrah's late burst to restrict England to just 192. The home team would be hopeful of picking the next 6 wickets and wrapping up the Indian side to script a historic comeback in the test. Whereas the Gill- led team would want to chase down this total as they still have the centurion of the 1st innings present at the crease. The first session on day 4 was too difficult for the batters in terms of variable bounce and pace. The surface has surely quickened up. If it remains the same overnight, it could well be a huge task for the Indian batters to get the remaining 135 runs. Alot depends on the Rahul-Pant duo. These two were also the one who stitched a 140-odd partnership together in the first inns of the match. India would want Rahul to play as long as possible and him to stay along with every incoming batter. A quick 40-50 from their vice-captain Rishabh Pant could also be match defining. Their lower-order comprising of Jadeja, Nitish Reddy and Sundar made some handy contributions earlier in the match with the bat. India would hope they repeat the same in case the need arises. For now, the key would be wickets of Rahul and Pant. India have to pull this chase off, one way or the other. Otherwise this might go down as one of their worst test losses in recent times. This was India's game to lose at the beginning of the fourth innings and they would be highly disappointed with their performance in the last 30 minutes of the day. India are standing in front of a golden opportunity to win the Lord's once again and take a 2-1 lead in this superb series. They can't let this go. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant can't let this go. We all know how dramatic Lord's 2021 was. India bowling out England within 60 overs with every single one of those 11 people fired up. Well, we are all set for another dramatic end to what has been a test match of the highest quality and a series that has ebbed and flowed throughout with infinite twists and turns. This match has also seen some heated moments. Alot of words exchanged as well. No matter who wins on the last day at the Home of Cricket, the winning moment would be a sight to behold, once again. Be seated lads, what you're witnessing is history in the making. England vs India, 3rd Test, Lord's, Day 5 will be just about which bunch of players holds their nerves better and gets the job done. You might just have your best Monday of the season or it might just turn out to be your worst.
