Former Indian cricket legends Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath have thrown their support behind Venkatesh Prasad, who’s gearing up to run for the presidency in the upcoming Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) elections. Mark your calendars for November 30, as that’s when the elections will take place, with nominations being accepted from November 12 to 16. Prasad, who’s at the helm of a group called Team Game Changers, has revealed his panel members for various positions. Among them are former KSCA treasurer Vinay Mruthyunjaya, who’s aiming for the secretary role, ex-cricketer Sujith Somasunder for vice-president, B.N. Madhukar for treasurer, and A.V. Shashidhar for joint secretary. They’ll be facing off against Team Brijesh, which has the backing of former cricketer and administrator Brijesh Patel. This rival group has nominated K.N. Shanth Kumar for president, along with other candidates vying for key roles within the association. He’s particularly concerned about the state of local academies, grounds, and stadiums, especially since the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has lost its international stature. His vision includes reviving cricket at all levels, with a special focus on women’s cricket, which he believes has been neglected in recent years. Sujith Somasunder, also part of Prasad’s team, pointed out that cricket administration in the state should be led by individuals who genuinely understand the game. His choice to join the team stems from a desire to drive meaningful change and put cricket back at the forefront of KSCA’s agenda. With the backing of Kumble and Srinath, Prasad’s team is stepping into the elections with a commitment to rebuild the foundation of Karnataka cricket, enhance grassroots development, and restore the KSCA’s reputation as one of the most respected associations in Indian cricket.
