Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained Virat Kohli, Yash Dayal and Rajat Patidar before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. This resulted in the release of Faf du Plessis, their captain from IPL 2022 to 2024. It was expected that the franchise will rope in the Proteas back, but they did not even use the RTM card as the cricketer was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore. Speculations were at all-time high that Kohli, who had resigned as RCB captain in 2022, will return as the skipper. Though there was no confirmation from the franchise even after the mega auction, RCB's Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat had said that there was no decision taken on that matter. Later, Head Coach Andy Flower said the same thing and said that the 'communication has not happened yet'. Here is what Flower to SportsTak "Well, you're going to have to wait for the outcome. It's a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle, and I'm sure the anticipation will be good for you. You can ask me as often as you like, but that communication has not happened yet," RCB walked in with a rich purse and went on to spend on 19 players. They spent the most on the Australian pacer, Josh Hazlewood INR 12 crore and signed up big hitting specialist, Phil Salt INR 12 crores. As if that were not enough to strengthen their bowling arsenal, RCB signed in the veteran, Bhuvneshwar Kumar INR 10.75 crores as well as fiery Australian batter Tim David INR 3 crores.
